Description:
The Green Bay Public School District is accepting applications for a full-time School Nurse position beginning with the 2018-19 school year. The school nurse is responsible for carrying out the school district’s health program, as defined by Wisconsin state statues, administrative rules, district policies, and consistent with the Wisconsin Nurse Practice Act. The goals of the position are to maintain and/or improve the health status of students thus enabling them to benefit from their educational experiences, and to promote optimum health status and lifestyles for all students through the joint efforts of the home, school and community. Qualifications Required:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN), Wisconsin RN Licensure
- Minimum of three years recent experience as an RN.
- Experience working with children and/or families in a health care role.

Qualifications Desired:
Works toward (and subsequently maintains) certification in school nursing, community health/public health nursing, family nurse practitioner, or pediatric/school nurse practitioner by a nationally recognized professional nursing organization.

Examples of Essential Functions:
1. Applies appropriate nursing theory as the basis for decision making in the school setting.
2. Establishes and maintains a coordinated school health program following the guidelines set forth in Wisconsin state statues, regulations, and school district policy.
3. Consults with school administrators and medical director(s) to establish, review, and revise policy and procedures and directives for a comprehensive school health program.
4. Determines the delegation of health care procedures to paraprofessionals, the extent of their orientation, and amount and type of ongoing monitoring and supervision that will be needed to comply with state Nurse Practice Act and other legal considerations.
5. Arranges in-service program for school personnel, for first aid, emergency care procedures, current health issues, communicable disease prevention, and universal precautions.
6. Monitors and maintains school health records including 504 Plans for appropriate students.
7. Prepares reports as required by the District, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, and Wisconsin Division of Health.
8. Collaborates with local and state organizations to implement mandated health programs.
9. Develops individualized health plans for students using the nursing process.
10. Collects information about the health and developmental status of the student in a systematic and continuous manner, including health and social histories; screening results; physical assessment; emotional status; performance level, and health goals.
11. Collects data from student, family, significant others, school personnel, and health care professionals.
12. Uses data collected about the health and educational status of the student to determine a nursing diagnosis.
13. Participates in consultation team and IEP team meetings.
14. Develops a nursing care plan with specific goals and interventions, delineating school nursing actions unique to student needs.
15. Intervenes as guided by the nursing care plan to implement nursing actions that promote, maintain, or restore health; prevent illness; and affect rehabilitation.
16. Assesses student response to nursing actions in order to revise the data base, nursing diagnoses, and nursing care plan, and to determine progress made toward goal achievement.
17. Documents diagnoses, plans, interventions, and results on the student health record.
18. Monitors and/or provides medically prescribed interventions to students.
19. Supervises and/or provides acute care of students and staff.
