The Tohono O’odham Nation’s headquarters is located in the community of Sells, approximately sixty miles southwest of Tucson, Arizona. The District’s schools are also located around Sells. The reservation is divided into eleven tribal districts and within these districts are 83 communities. The total population of the reservation is 19,000 with 4,000 people residing in Sells, and the total enrollment for the Nation is 28,000.
The Nation has a variety of facilities in Sells, including a shopping center, U.S. Post office, hospital, tribally owned utility company, community college, bank, service stations, a trading post, the Papago Café and a rodeo arena. The Tohono O’odham Nation contains many areas of tourist interest. The ruggedness of the mountains and the vast undeveloped landscaped inspire great admiration. Of special interest are the Kitt Peak National Observatory, and the beautiful 18th century San Xavier Church, located in the San Xavier District. The Tohono O'odham people themselves are a warm, caring people, steeped in a great tradition, who also utilize all the best aspects of 21st Century living.
The Indian Oasis-Baboquivari Unified School District consists of all 3,400 square miles of the main Tohono O’odham Nation reservation within Pima County, Arizona. The Tohono reservation is within the Santa Rosa, Sierrita, Combabi, Sand Tank and Sauceds mountain ranges. Land elevations range between 850 and 8,000 feet above sea level. The area is bounded on three sides by township lines and is bounded to the south by the international borderline of Mexico.
