West Virginia, through legislative action in 1972, established eight regions to equalize and extend educational opportunities. RESA boundaries were established so that each RESA would serve a comparable number of students.

Mission The purpose of RESA-1 is to assist districts in accomplishing together what would be difficult or impossible to do alone by providing a framework for a unified effort in meeting educational goals. This is accomplished through service, information, economics of operation, and broad-based collaboration.
