EDWEEK's Quality Counts survey ranked West Virginia standards and accountability as receiving an "A" three years running.
The historic legislation, No Child Left Behind, has profound implications for the educational system of West Virginia. Along with every state in the nation, the West Virginia Department of Education has worked diligently to successfully comply with the conditions of this major legislation, while maintaining its commitment to quality education for West Virginia students.
Under the leadership of the Office of Student Assessment Services, the Offices of Instructional Services and Special Education Programs & Services with collaboration from WV educators the West Virginia Educational Standards Test (WESTEST) was created. This customized, criterion referenced test aligned to West Virginia's Content Standards and Objectives (CSOs) is designed specifically for West Virginia students in grades 3 - 8, and 10 and includes three types of test items for students: selected response (multiple choice), short answer, and constructed response.
