Job Summary:
Milwaukee Public Schools Department of Specialzed Services is actively recruiting an experienced school counselor to work in various high school settings to oversee and provide the Pregnant / Parenting Youth Program services.

A Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) counselor provides support services to students, staff, and parents. The duties are focused on the overall delivery counseling program realized through guidance curriculum, individual student planning and responsive services. Additional responsibilities include school programming in Infifnite Campus, student rostering/scheduling, maintaining individual student Academic and Career Plans, etc. The school counseling program is offered in an equitable, multi-cultural setting and helps all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development and career development.The counselor's work supports the MPS strategic plan.

Qualifications:
Applicants who posses the following characteristics and skills are preferred:

- A minimum of three years of school counseling experience in a middle or high school setting
- Successful experience with young men and women that are teen parents or about to become parents.
- Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills
- Skill at organizing resources and establishing priorities.
- Experience supervising staff and managing budgets
- The ability to develop effective working relationships with diverse individuals at all levels
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- A strong working knowledge of computer applications to include MS Office software, Hyperion, IC and the MPS portal is required.
- The ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports

Responsibilities:
Plans and organizes material for instruction and presents and reinforces lessons as appropriate for all students in PPYP and is a case manager for a group of students.

Develops and maintains an environment conductive to learning that prepares students to meet and exceed Wisconsin academic standards, particularly in the areas of Math and English Language Arts.

Evaluates student progress on a continuous basis and provides feedback to students, parents and appropriate staff members. Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by state law and Board polices.

Addresses different learning modalities, including auditory, visual and kinesthetic.

Develops and maintains family outreach programs and community partnerships, and serves as a member of the family support team.

Participates as a member of the school’s learning community to provide answers and guidance to students, parent and the general community. Participates in parent/teacher conferences to support the education needs of the students.

Provides direct support service to individual students, small groups, and for PPYP students, referrals, and counseling with students and families.Refer students for additional services within the school/community as needed.

Participates in staff development programs, staff meetings and extra- curricular activities. Attends educational conventions and conferences to learn and discuss new methodologies for guidance. Conducts professional development on guidance services available.

Assist with student scheduling/programming, especially for PPYP students as well as services within PPYP.

Actively supports the MPS strategic plan.

Performs other duties as assigned.
