Special Education-Collaborative Kindergarten Teacher

Location: Webster Elementary School

Description:
We welcome candidates interested in a Special Education-EC Collaborative Kindergarten position to make application to our vacancy. This teacher works with 10-12 students divided between two 5-year old Kindergarten classrooms. Time is spent serving these students within their classrooms. The teacher in this position collaborates with the two general education teachers to meet the needs of all students in the two classrooms.

Instruction at Webster Elementary School is focused on Arts Integration. Arts Integration is an approach to teaching, rather than a strategy. Students construct and demonstrate understanding through the Arts. At the end of an Arts Integrated lesson, not only do students have a final product, but they should be able to explain and demonstrate what they’ve learned. Students engage in a creative process, which is where the majority of the learning occurs.

Evolving objectives - Students are able to build on their knowledge and skills as they progress through grade levels and subject areas.

Position Purpose:
To provide instruction that allows students to reach proficiency as specified in the District’s written curriculum and as outlined in the Arts Integration program at Webster Elementary School.

Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree and Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Educator License in Special Education-Early Childhood Education.

Experience: Experience with or strong desire to integrate fine art forms with District curriculum; Experience in providing a strong teaching and learning emphasis in a fine arts form.

In addition to the essential functions of a classroom teacher, the following additional essential functions apply:
1. Collaborates with the Artistic Directors, Special Areas Teachers, department and grade level colleagues to develop and implement an arts-integrated/project-based curriculum that is developmentally and culturally appropriate, and aligns instructional practices, curriculum development, and budgeting processes with District expectations and the Changing Education Through the Arts (CETA) vision.
2. Designs daily activities based on children’s individual and collective interests, developmental needs and social relationships that foster constructivist learning, creativity and critical-thinking skills across the curriculum.
3. Works collaboratively with higher level educational institutions and community partners both in and out of the classroom and beyond the school day to promote arts integration.
4. Frequently attends and assists with a events outside of the work day; examples of which follow:
a. School musicals and concerts
b. Evening of the Arts
c. ArtSmart Open House
d. EQUATE programs
e. PTO meetings and other events that support the mission and vision of our school
5. Meets with one of the following Focus Teams at least once each month:
a. Literacy
b. Student Engagement
c. Math
d. Thriving Workforce
e. Professional Learning and ArtSmart
6. Participates fully in all Arts Integration professional development held during the workday.
7. Has a background or interest in the arts
8. All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Working Conditions:

4. Work requires planning with colleagues and others to best meet the needs of those served.
5. Work requires flexibility in adjusting to continuously changing situations.
