Green Bay Area Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Howe Special Education Teacher (Autism Focus)

Location: Howe Elementary School

The Green Bay Public School District is pleased to announce a special education teaching vacancy at Howe Elementary School beginning with the 2017-18 school year. This position is an autism focus classroom. Candidates with experience in educating and/or a desire to educate students with autism spectrum disorders are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications Required:
Education: Bachelor's Degree

Certification: Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Special Education certification at the elementary level

Desired Qualifications:
Previous training or a desire to be trained in Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)

In addition to the teacher classroom essential functions, this position focuses on the following essential functions:
1. Provides intense instruction to students with autism spectrum disorders.
2. Implements evidence based practices with fidelity for students with autism spectrum disorders.
3. Collects data regarding the needs and achievement of students with autism spectrum disorders, including State assessments, and other pertinent information affecting the design and implementation of services and programs, using the information to recommend new practices and modifications to existing practices.
4. Attends on-going professional development in the areas of service delivery, assessment, technology, instructional strategies and programs for students with autism spectrum disorders, including PECS training.
5. Serves on the building’s Allies in Autism team, which provides staff support to ensure IDEA compliance, communicates ideas for classroom management, assists with the management of student behavior and learning needs, and shares information to ensure students with autism spectrum disorders are college, career, and/or community ready.
6. Collaborates with District staff (including the District’s Program Support Teacher – Autism Focus and other autism focus special education teachers), students, parents and community members to enhance the awareness, expectations, and outcomes of students with autism spectrum disorders.
7. Performs all other duties as assigned by principal or supervisor.

Howe Elementary School is a Kindergarten through Fifth grade school with an enrollment of approximately 430 students. Howe also provides Early Childhood and Head Start Programming for qualifying students ages 3-5. A Title 1 School-wide Project and SAGE site with English as a Second Language, Bilingual, and Special Education programs, Howe is a culturally diverse school with a large percentage of students that are economically challenged (over 93%). The Howe Family Resource Center is an integral partner for supporting Howe families and providing programming to develop the capacity of families.
