Mission

Tacoma Community College shall not provide quality educational programs in a dynamic learning environment. The college shall be accessible, comprehensive and flexible, and shall address the personal, professional and social needs of its diverse community.

Student Support

TCC understands the range of students’ needs, and provides dynamic support systems to foster student persistence in achieving educational goals. We develop students’ ability to navigate within the learning needs and strengths. Quality advising and interdepartmental collaboration sustain students’ clearly defined educational and professional pathways, and support transitions to and through TCC. Together with our community partners we create the opportunity for learner transformation.

Goals 2005-2006

LEARNING

Develop and emphasize community service as a component of the educational process.

Increase student success in pre-college courses.

Clarify outcomes and improve assessment of student learning at the program level.

STUDENT SUPPORT

Expand participation in the Student Success Seminar to better prepare students for college learning.

Improve student advising and focus on retaining students when they face key transitions in the educational process.

Remodel the bookstore to enhance service to students.

DIVERSITY

Provide a climate that fosters a rich diversity of students with support services geared to their success.

Emphasize the need for multicultural competencies in faculty/staff recruitment.

Infuse the recognition of multicultural contributions into the campus environment and the curriculum.

Enhance multicultural connections between college and community.

COMMUNITY

Strengthen and expand partnerships with school districts and universities.

Improve college support of career planning, internships and job placement.

Begin development of a TCC alumni organization.

EXCELLENCE AND INNOVATION

Successfully conclude the “Invest in Your Future” capital and endowment campaign and fund the campaign initiatives.

Develop a state-of-the-art college website, with expanded information, vivid graphics and excellent navigability.

Initiate student e-portfolios that can be shared with other colleges and universities and with employers.

LEARNING AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Develop a student email system and other technologies to ease student access to data, resources and processes.

Continue progress on creating a fully wireless campus environment.

Enhance the physical appearance of the campus.
