King George County, gateway to Virginia's northern neck, is located about 20 miles east of Fredericksburg, and midway between Washington, D.C. and Richmond, Virginia. Although located only an hour's drive from our nation's capital, King George remains a small, rural community, nestled between the historic Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers.
Our public school system consists of four schools: two elementary, one middle, and one high school, plus an Alternative Education Program. Our student population is less than 3,000. We have a low teacher/pupil ratio, with over 200 classroom teachers, complemented by guidance counselors, a school psychologist, a school sociologist, special education teachers, librarians, and other resource specialists to provide the best possible education for each child.
Plans for the construction of a new 1,200 student high school, and 650 student elementary school are currently underway, with projected opening dates in the 2004 school year.
