Stafford County P.S is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Attendance Social Worker

Location: Alternative Education

Minimum Salary: $42,250.00

Position Summary - School Social Worker For Day School and Transition Center:
Under the supervision of the Director of Special Programs or designee, the School Social Worker serves as liaison between home, school, and community in order to facilitate the studentsí appropriate personal/social adjustment.

1. Earned masterís of social work from an accredited school of social work with a minimum of 60 graduate hours.
2. Supervised practicum or field experience of a minimum of 400 clock hours in an accredited school discharging the duties of a school social worker or completion of a minimum of one year full-time supervised successful experience as a school social worker in an accredited school.
3. School social work practice: 3 semester hours at the graduate level.
4. Ongoing evidence of mental and physical competence to perform assigned responsibilities may be required from a qualified physician.
5. An applicant who has had prior experience in a related position must have a performance rating which is acceptable to Stafford County Public Schools for such experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the issues surrounding service planning and implementation in an educational setting for students with Emotional Disturbances, Autism and Mental Retardation.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of community agencies/resources.
3. Demonstrate appropriate use of oral and written communication skills; thorough knowledge of English grammar and usage.
4. Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to the NASW Code of Ethics.
6. Demonstrate the ability to adhere to Guidelines of Confidentiality as outlined in Federal and State laws and county policies and procedures.
7. Demonstrate knowledge of child development and growth stages.
8. Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication and human relations skills with students, staff members, parents, and administrators.
9. Demonstrate knowledge of current special education regulations, issues, and related laws.
10. Experience with day placement or residential programs serving students with Emotional Disturbances, Autism and Mental Retardation preferred.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide services and support to students with Emotional Disturbances, Autism and Mental Retardation in the SCPS Public Day School and Transition Program.
2. Collaborate with Day School and Transition Program staff in program planning, implementation and evaluation.
3. Provide individual and/or group counseling as designated on the studentís IEP.
4. Provide crisis intervention for students as needed.
5. Confer with school personnel to bring information relating to the home that may be helpful in working with a student.
6. Provide for an effective working relationship with students, parents, school personnel, community agencies and others concerned with student welfare.
7. Work cooperatively and collaboratively with community agencies.
8. Provide case management services to students and families, to include making referrals to appropriate community resources.
9. Consult with school personnel, parents, and other appropriate individuals to help increase the understanding of students and to help provide an atmosphere conducive to the studentís growth and development.
10. Participate as a team member in the development and revision of special programs for individual students which may include IEPs, BIPís, transition plans for post secondary outcomes and other intervention strategies when appropriate.
11. Adhere to guidelines of confidentiality as outlined in federal and state laws, School Board Policies and Procedures, and the NASW Code of Ethics.
12. Maintain appropriate case records and documentation.
13. Prepare reports/assessments within required time lines.
14. Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality.
15. Serve as an optimal role model for students, colleagues, and the general public.
16. Must work in close harmony with colleagues, supervisors, and co-workers.
17. Maintain a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to position.
18. Actively pursue professional growth activities.
19. Comply with all district and school policies and regulations.
20. Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Specific Responsibilities:
- Become certified in Handle with Care (verbal and physical components).
- Become certified to administer the CANS assessment tool.

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Terms of Employment: 10 months according to Stafford School Board calendar

Evaluation: Evaluation will be conducted in accordance with School Board Policies and Regulations
