The Goochland County Public School System has a specific mission-"to mold well-rounded, well-informed, self- confident young people" - to become productive and well-adjusted citizens. It's this commitment to the future of each student that makes our schools successful.
The Goochland County school division is committed to excellence in education, equality of educational opportunity and the recognition of each student's individuality. Programs allow an individual approach to each student's learning style and educational needs, providing learning opportunities that are consistent with personal development and potential.
Goochland's 2000 students attend three elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, a preschool, two governor's schools and an alternative school. The pupil/teacher ratios for grades K-5 are 17 to 1.
The $22 million "state-of-the-art" Goochland High School will open in the fall of 2001 as an 800-student high school. It is designed to accommodate the addition of a 600-student middle school that the county will eventually need. As Goochland's population grows, the building can grow. With an addition, the high school can expand to serve 1,000 students, and the middle school can expand to serve 800 students.
