Granite School District is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Director of Prevention and Student Placement

Location: Granite School District

Salary Range: Administrative Salary Schedule

Contract: 12-MONTH/243 DAYS

The Director of Prevention and Student Placement Services is responsible for overseeing multiple departments and programs through supervision of several administrator and specialist positions. Departments and programs include:placement programs (sStep, Turning Point, Youth in Custody or YESS, Homebound Hospital, Home School, guardianship), prevention programs (attendance, bullying, drug and alcohol, gang, suicide), Granite Peaks Adult Education (high school completion, English language learning) and Granite Connection High School (alternative high).

Essential Functions:
• Establishes and maintains all department policies, practices and procedures
• Supervises and provides direction to all department/programs administrators and specialists
• Problem solves, provides consultation, clarification, implementation and interpretation
• Serves on district, community and state committees such as: Emergency Response and School Safety, Commission on Youth, Gang Task Force, IPT Steering Committee, YESS Advisory Council, Safe Schools Appeals Committee, Open Enrollment Appeals Committee, District Conduct Appeals Committee
• Ensures representation of Granite School District in Truancy Court
• Responsible for development and monitoring all department and program budgets. Assures proper management and appropriate allocations, decisions, grants and requisitions
• Responsible for development and design of grant writing to procure funding for programs such as: Drug & Alcohol, Suicide Prevention, and Gang Prevention
• Facilitates several department and program coordination meetings
• Designs and administers professional learning on gang free programs and prevention training to schools
• Administers district surveys such as: SHARP (Student Health and Risk Prevention) and Bully Prevention Survey
• Oversees issuance of I-20, foreign exchange student placement and durable power of attorney
• Consults and resolves complaints from parents and students regarding issues such as special permits, retention/promotion, guardianship, school placement and safe school issues
• Provides guidance on district and state policies regarding guardianship, choice enrollment options, DCFS placements, drug and alcohol, sexual harassment, attendance, FERPA, graduation requirements, exemptions, promotions and retentions, district and school safety plans

Required Knowledge and Skills:
• Knowledge of other agency and court policies and operations
• High level of conflict resolution and problem solving skills
• Budget skills and knowledge of state, federal, and district budget processes
• Skills to effectively and positively interact and support patrons and students in crisis
• Ability to develop, write, and implement effective policy and procedures
• High degree of communication and organizational skills, including the ability to effectively direct staff and facilitate department communication
• Skill in mediation, staff supervision and corrective action
• Understanding of and ability to help students find alternative routes to high school completion
• Knowledge and skill in implementing Granite’s instructional framework, professional learning communities’ practices, and multi-tiered systems of support

• Current Utah Administrative/Supervisory license required
• Five years of job related experience required
• School building administrative experience required
