Flour Bluff Independent School District was established in 1892 and encompasses a 156 square mile area. The district includes the Naval Air Station, the Corpus Christi Army Depot, the Flour Bluff community and a developing resort and residential area on North Padre Island.
Seven campuses and athletic facilities are located on a single 170 acre site which supports 5,000 students in prekindergarten through 12th grades. The new high school is the home of the current UIL State Championship teams in Math and Current Events as well as the National Champion NJROTC drill team. The district is extremely competitive in athletic programs and has participated in the district, regional, or state playoffs for several sports.
The Board of Trustees was selected by the Texas Association of School Administrators as the Outstanding School Board of the Year 2000, and the district and the City of Corpus Christi have developed the Janet F. Harte Library next to the high school on school property. The high school and the city will share the library in an innovative use of tax resources.
