Rutherford County schools offer many programs to meet the individual learning needs of our students. All schools are staffed with music, art and physical education teachers, guidance counselors and media center specialists in addition to classroom teachers. Special education includes programs for children ages 3-21 who are physically, emotionally or mentally challenged and includes speech and language therapy, physical and occupational therapy, vision and hearing services, classroom instruction and parent support groups.
The Rutherford County School System is adding about 1,500 students annually, which translates into 1-2 new schools needed each year.
In the next 10 years, the costs for new schools and additions to existing schools is projected to be about $500 million.
Schools planned for the next 10 years: 10 elementary schools, six middle schools, three high schools and several additions to existing schools.
Approximately 3,400 people are employed by Rutherford County Schools — a mix of about 2,200 teachers and 1,200 classified
employees. Teacher salaries range from $29,500-$54,582.
