With a population of over 55,000, Springfield is the second largest city in Lane County. Springfield lies between two rolling rivers in the heart of the Willamette Valley in western Oregon - the McKenzie River, famous for its fly fishing waters, and the Willamette River. Springfield is a friendly place to live, work and play. Springfield is a popular choice for statewide events, due to its convenient location on Interstate 5, halfway between the coast and the Cascade Mountains.
Summer in Springfield is full of many special events and festivals – Fiesta Latina, the Springfield Filbert Festival and concerts in the park. Our area offers local access to camping, boating, and some of the best fresh-water fishing in the state. The Lively Park Swim Center Wave Pool is a favorite with kids.
Much of the community’s historic heritage has been preserved. The residential Washburne Historic District, abutting downtown, is a fine example of working-class mill cottages.
Springfield hosts a growing number of businesses, as it transitions from a resource-based economy to medical services and high-tech industries.
The City of Springfield municipal agency offers a wide variety of services to the local community as well as ongoing intergovernmental cooperation with our regional partners. The City operates on a council form of government, with a Mayor and six councilors, all volunteer positions.
In Springfield, we are proud of our reputation for friendliness and hospitality. Again, welcome to the City of Springfield!
