Mustang Public Schools …
At the heart of the community is the Mustang Public School District. Covering 69 square miles in Canadian and Oklahoma counties, the district is home to more than 7,500 students. The district has a budget of $34 million and is the largest employer in Canadian County with 800 employees, including 479 certified teachers and 30 administrators. Although the district includes 10 school sites, it retains the small-town feel that Mustang residents appreciate, while offering students all the opportunities available in a large district.
Every child is an individual …
Mustang Public Schools is a leader in education in Oklahoma. Mustang is the only district in Oklahoma to earn the Transitions Endorsement from North Central Accreditation. With the Transitions model, every child’s progress is monitored. While achievement across grade levels is important, we want to ensure that every child is as successful as she can be and that none fall through the cracks.
By credentialing students, or checking that they are proficient in areas like reading and math, teachers can be certain the students are ready to advance to the next grade. If a student does not meet the credentialing requirements, remediation is available to help him reach the next level.
The right information at the right time …
At Mustang Public Schools, classrooms do not operate independently of each other. The curriculum creates a network of information joining classrooms to classrooms, grade levels to grade levels and schools to schools. At every grade level and subject, our teachers work with each other and with our elementary and secondary coordinators to refine and “align” the curriculum. Aligning the curriculum ensures that district teaching goals, what is taught in the classrooms and what the students are tested on, are all the same. It also ensures that subjects are taught in the order that best facilitates learning. With a focus on continuous improvement, our students perform at above-average levels. Each year, Mustang students of all grade levels score in the top quartile on national and state achievement tests.
