Many special education students are able to participate in regular classroom situations using the consultant-teacher model. In addition, students are given opportunities to take part in enrichment activities that are coordinated between the gifted and talented specialist and the regular classroom teachers. The Middle School enrolls 392 students in grades 6-8, providing an ideal small setting for delivering educational services to this unique age group of learners. The emphasis is on the development of the whole child to include academic as well as personal/social growth during this stage of early adolescence. A strong feature of the middle school is the close working relationship among teachers for the benefit of the students. Each grade level has a teacher team to include a consultant teacher who works with special education students in a regular classroom setting. Students who need extra help have math and reading labs available. Exploratory courses and enrichment activities support and enhance the core academic instruction. The middle school's emphasis on quality work (high standards), engaging students in active learning (performance tasks), developing real life skills and having students become self directive, life long learners. The Cleveland Hill High School offers a wide range of academic programs, extracurricular activities and support programs that allows its 441 students to develop all facets of their skills and interests. Cleveland Hill is a leader in preparing all students to face the challenges of the Regents exams. The Academic Center for Excellence was developed to support students in this endeavor. There are Advanced Placement offerings and four units of Foreign Language study available. A "state of the art" library allows the students to utilize resources and research tools that prepare them for the future. The extracurricular program involves a high percentage of male and female students and the teams have been very successful in interscholastic competition. Cleveland High School provides a safe and positive educational environment where all students "soar toward success." The community demonstrated it's broad support for the school district by strongly supporting a $28.5 million dollar building project proposition in the fall of 1998. The district is currently in the early phase of this construction project that addresses both classroom and athletic needs. Additionally, the district is in the early phase of a $1.6 million dollar energy performance contract, which will replace the roof and add cogeneration capabilities. Both projects will significantly enhance the district's capabilities.
