The High School for Violin and Dance offers every student classes in violin and in modern dance in addition to the courses needed to prepare for college. No prior experience is necessary but students are expected to have serious interest in the two performing arts and be ready to participate in intensive training. With consistent practice, our students achieve competence, confidence, good citizenship and maturity that are the foundations for success in high school.
There are culminating dance and violin performances at the end of the school year and after-school rehearsals are necessary. We are committed to helping our students flourish in a positive school environment where a focus on understanding and group learning is a significant part of every lesson. Academic achievement is a top priority along with personal expression through the performing arts curriculum. The High School for Violin and Dance (HSVD) creates a community of lifelong learners who are focused, aesthetically sensitive citizens able to make quality choices. We offer training in violin and dance as well as arts-integrated academic studies that utilize a collaborative approach to learning. The knowledge, skills, personal character and maturity that our students will gain during their high school years will make them successful, college-ready graduates. The High School for Violin and Dance sets the standard of the performing artist for learning. Students are challenged to work with others to create ways to demonstrate their learning. The goal is to learn at standard-meeting levels so as to perform confidently and to apply core performance principles to all artistic and academic disciplines.
