Achievement First - New York Info

Achievement First is a charter school management organization started in July 2003 by the leaders of Amistad Academy, a high-performing charter school in New Haven, CT. A non-profit 501(c)3 organization, Achievement First aims to bring to scale the dramatic, life-changing student achievement results produced at Amistad by creating a district-sized network of achievement-gap closing charter schools in New York and Connecticut.

Our Mission: The mission of Achievement First is to deliver on the often-denied promise of equal educational opportunity for America's urban children by inspiring in them the belief that they can achieve and developing in them the academic and character skills necessary to compete on a level playing field.

Our Five-Year Vision: The five-year vision of Achievement First is to create a district-sized network of achievement-gap-closing urban charter schools while developing the school model, teachers and leaders, and scalable systems necessary to partner with our nation's lowest-performing districts to ensure that every school serving urban students in America is great.

Our Long-Term Vision: The long-term vision of Achievement First is to permanently close the Achievement Gap in the United States by opening great urban public schools, partnering with large urban school districts to disseminate our best practices, and pressuring policymakers and school administrators to demand and reward excellence in our public schools.
