SALARY & BENEFITS: Grade 26. Range begins with Step 1 = $19.52 per hour. 8.00 hours per day, 12 months per year with benefits according to the classified negotiated agreement. Employer-paid retirement, health and life insurance, sick leave benefits and personal leave. A new classified employee may receive up to a maximum of five (5) years of previous outside work experience. The prior position must be similar in nature and written verification of employment from the previous employer must be submitted to Human Resources upon employment. Per Administrative Regulation No. 311.1.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or the equivalent. A typical qualifying entrance background is completion of formal or informal training in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, glazing, welding steel fabric, refrigeration, air conditioning, audiovisual equipment; or other trades, or a closely related field; and journey-level experience performing maintenance work in the designated trades areas of facility and equipment maintenance assigned; or experience at or equivalent to experience as a Building Maintenance Worker in the Carson City School District, wherein the incumbent has acquired the knowledge and abilities listed below. Bilingual preferred.

Must be able to pass the pre-employment drug screen, physical, and lift test.

This is a replacement position.

General Job Description:
Under general supervision, to perform skilled, journey-level building trades work in the repair, maintenance, alteration and new construction of District buildings and equipment; to provide maintenance and repair of audiovisual equipment as needed; and to perform related work as required.

Experience or training required:

Knowledge of: Standard methods, materials and equipment used in one or more of the building trades listed above; applicable building codes and ordinances; safe work practices; recordkeeping principles and practices; shop mathematics applicable to assigned trade(s); types and uses of a wide variety of audiovisual equipment; proper methods, materials, tools, equipment and theories used in electronic repair.

Ability to: Perform skilled, journey-level work in two or more of the building trades listed; electronic equipment diagnostics, maintenance and repair work; use of required tools and equipment skillfully and safely; work from plans, sketches, blueprints, specifications, diagrams and technical manuals; estimate time and material requirements of specific projects and assignments; maintain accurate records; operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective proactive relationships with those contacted in the course of work; read and write at the level required for successful job performance.

Any combination of training, education, and experience, which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties of the position: Graduation from high school or the equivalent. Licenses or Certificates required:
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent certificate, a valid driverís license issued by the state of residence and an original Social Security Card.

The Job Functions:
Positions allocated to the class of Skilled Building Maintenance Worker are characterized by the performance of journey-level work in two or more of the specialized building trades listed below. A Skilled Building Maintenance Worker performs independently or may lead the work of a small crew. Incumbents also perform a variety of unskilled and semiskilled maintenance work independently or as a helper, as assigned.
