SALARY & BENEFITS: Grade 21. Range begins with Step 1 = $15.30 per hour. 8.00 hours per day, 201 days per year with benefits according to the classified negotiated agreement. Employer-paid retirement, health and life insurance, sick leave benefits and personal leave. A new classified employee may receive up to a maximum of five (5) years of previous outside work experience. The prior position must be similar in nature and written verification of employment from the previous employer must be submitted to Human Resources upon employment. Per Administrative Regulation No. 311.1.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or the equivalent. A typical qualifying entrance background is completion of formal or informal training in business classes, such as bookkeeping, word processing, keyboarding, business English, automated record keeping, or a closely related field; or experience at or equivalent to experience as a Senior Office Specialist in the Carson City School District, wherein the incumbent has acquired the knowledge and abilities listed below. Bilingual preferred.

Must be able to pass the pre-employment drug screen test.

This is a replacement position.

General Job Description:
Under general supervision, to perform a wide variety of difficult and highly specialized clerical work; to relieve administrator of administrative detail; and to perform related work as required.

Experience or training required:

Knowledge of: Advanced office procedures, bookkeeping and accounting principles, methods, practices and terminology used in financial and statistical record keeping; business correspondence and reporting formats and business telephone techniques; modern office equipment and procedures; English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; business mathematics standard word processing and data processing techniques and methods; operation of computer terminals and microcomputers; applicable Nevada State Laws, District policies, procedures and Federal guidelines and other regulations governing the programs or area of assigned responsibility; basic techniques of supervision may be required in some assignments.

Ability to: Perform difficult and complex clerical work, involving independent judgment and requiring accuracy and speed; independently make clear and comprehensive reports and keep difficult records; read, understand, interpret, apply and explain to others a wide variety of policies, procedures, laws, rules, regulations and other documents encountered in the course of work; analyze situations and develop effective courses of action; devise and adapt work procedures and record keeping systems to meet changing organizational or specialized needs; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, displaying tact, patience and judgment; proofread work and correct spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors; plan, organize and schedule work in accordance with established priorities and under pressure of deadlines; meet time and quality requirements with a high degree of independence and accuracy; adjust to changes in work load, assignments, priorities and policies; read different styles of handwriting; retain and recall information; maintain confidentiality of sensitive or privileged information; make mathematical calculations with speed, accuracy and efficiency using calculator or computer; operate a computer terminal keyboard and typewriter at a net corrected speed of 50 wpm; operate a word processor and other standard office equipment accurately and efficiently; establish and maintain filing and record keeping systems; audit the work of departmental staff for accuracy; operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective proactive relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Any combination of training, education, and experience, which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties of the position: Graduation from high school or the equivalent. A typical qualifying entrance background is completion of formal or informal training in business classes, such as bookkeeping, word processing, keyboarding, business English, automated record keeping, or a closely related field; or experience at or equivalent to experience as a Senior Office Specialist in the Carson City School District, wherein the incumbent has acquired the knowledge and abilities listed above.

Licenses or Certificates required:
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent certificate, a valid driverís license issued by the state of residence, and an original Social Security Card.
