Carson City Schools is seeking applicants for the following position(s):

TOSA - Intervention Specialist English Language Arts - Remainder of the Year Only

NOTE: This position is not open to current contracted Carson City School District Employees. This position is strictly contingent on sufficient RBG3 Grant funds. This position is for the Remainder of the 2017-2018 School Year Only.

SALARY & BENEFITS: Salary placement based on education and verified contracted teaching experience accepted. Employer-paid retirement, health and life insurance, sick leave benefits and personal leave.

Must possess a Nevada license endorsed for the specific subject(s) and to perform other educational functions at the level and in the field for which he/she is to be employed, issued in accordance with law and in full force at the time the services are rendered. (NRS 391.170). All applicants must meet all highly qualified requirements. Bilingual preferred.

Must be able to pass the pre-employment drug screen test.

This is a new position.

General Job Description:
Under the collaborative supervision of the Educational Services Department and school principal, this position is responsible for designing, conducting, promoting, and supporting teacher professional development programs associated with the District’s Elementary School English Language Arts Program. The Intervention Specialist hired for this position is primarily responsible to support development of high quality instructional practices that meet the educational needs of all learners. In order to meet the expectations associated with the position the Intervention Specialists must provide professional support to the individual classroom teachers and building administration through coaching and targeted professional development. In addition the Intervention Specialist will facilitate the development of a guaranteed and viable curriculum in order that all learners have clear learning targets and unit level assessments that effectively measure student progress. This would include proficiency in student data systems like Mastery Connect, Member Center, and NWEA-MAP tools. The Intervention Specialists will provide services in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment as part of the work they perform at site and District level programming. The Intervention Specialist will also facilitate the Success For All Foundation – SFA programming, processes, and integration.

Experience &/or Training Required:
A minimum of 5 years classroom instruction experience required.
District, departmental, and campus policies and procedures.
Knowledge of high quality staff development projects.
Knowledge and ability to apply Nevada State Standards for Professional Development.
Working knowledge of current public education programs and trends.
Ability to design and deliver research based high quality professional development projects.
Ability to implement and adapt professional development databases.
Ability to conduct research and gather data about program effectiveness.
Superior reading, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Superior presentation skills.
Ability to utilize data base management systems and software systems as part of work in completion of assignments (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Member Center, Mastery Connect, NWEA-MAP, etc).

Ability to:
The Intervention Specialist must be able to identify and develop site-based professional development opportunities identified in the school performance plan and District Strategic Plan. Intervention Specialist must be able to develop District-wide literacy tools, curriculum guides and benchmark assessments to improve student achievement. In addition the Intervention Specialist must be able to effectively work with administrators, teachers, and paraprofessionals to design and create professional development opportunities that lead to significant improvement of school and classroom practices. These professional improvements should eventually lead to high functioning students within each classroom.

Licenses or Certificates Required:
Possession of a valid Nevada Teaching License, TESL and/or Reading, and/or Literacy endorsement preferred, Master’s degree preferred, a valid drivers’ license issued by the state of residence, and an original Social Security Card. Reading or writing specializations preferred. Understanding of formative and summative assessment. Coaching experience preferred. The Job Functions:
The ELA Intervention Specialist will work closely with the school administration, district office personnel and SFA to produce the most effective training opportunities. Job responsibilities will include creation of professional development opportunities related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment, all of which promote the development of high quality teaching and learning opportunities.
