Program Support Specialist

Location: Special Education

Job Description :

To provide research based interventions to special education students with reading disabilities. Initiatives include intensive teacher training and support, modeling, instructional feedback, progress monitoring and helping teachers in designing instructional decisions based on assessments. This position will provide individualized support to schools particularly special education teachers including: program support and professional development, data analysis and as well as technology support. The program support specialist for reading will lead in the development, organization, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of grades K-6 delivery of instructional programs as they pertain to intervention reading programs. The support specialist will work with the Director of Special Education and school principals, teachers, and other appropriate personnel, to ensure that all students meet and exceed the State of New Mexico Core Curriculum Standards.

Develop, organize, implement, coordinate, and evaluate grades K-6 instructional programs as they pertain to intervention reading.
Develop and monitor short and long term measurable goals to support literacy intervention and program supports.
Provide presentations and job-embedded professional development.
Knowledge and expertise in working collaboratively with teachers and staff to improve practice.
Provide guidance with assistive and other technologies to facilitate instruction.
Plan, implement, and develop staff development for reading interventions programs and best practices.
Guide, facilitate and participate in professional learning communities to share knowledge, and responsibility for the total development of students and collective responsibility for students' success.
Work with directors of other offices to ensure alignment of curriculum and instructional needs at the building level.
Provide regular updates to school based administrators regarding the status of the strength of implementation of intervention programs.
Have knowledge of best instructional practices in helping students achieve high standards.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum: Valid New Mexico SPED teaching, counseling, or related services license. Four years of successful related experience.

Preferred: Masterís degree with an emphasis in reading; Reading Endorsement for the State of New Mexico; and background and training in language based reading programs and intervention reading.
