Behavior Coordinator

Location: Special Education

SFPS has embarked on a multi-year plan to transform our special education services. Initiatives include intensive teacher training and support, 1-1 assistive technology, and state of the art digital and curriculum resources. We have a core group of Support Specialists who provide individualized support to schools including: IEP process, progress monitoring, behavior consults, assistive technology, and pragmatic social and communication skill building. Nature of the Work
Provide behavior support services to schools and students experiencing behavioral challenges. This includes observing students and working with schools to coordinate, develop and monitor the implementation of behavior services, including Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan Development. It will also include supporting schools in looking systematically at student behaviors through the lenses of applied behavior analysis. The position includes providing in-service training and consultation with school administration, staff and parents.

Work Environment
This is a district-wide position requiring travel between schools and agencies in order to meet with individual students and teachers. Professional development offered should accommodate teacher schedules including afternoons/evenings, weekends, or summer trainings. Depending on the case load, number of members of the special education team, and size of the district, this position can be a stressful one. Strong organizational skills are a must.

Master's degree in special education with a minimum of five years successful experience in special education, behavior programs, applied behavior analysis or related experience. NM PED Administrative license

Preferred Certificates, Licenses & Registrations

Board Certification in Behavior Analysis (BCBA or BCaBA) or in program for BCBA or BCaBA

Specific Skills preferred
Ability to use and analyze data to problem-solve behavior-based interventions for students
Knowledge and understanding of applied behavior analysis methods and classroom management strategies
Ability to conduct preference assessments/motivation assessments
Assist educational staff with implementing discrete trial training and naturalistic teaching practices
Ability to conduct Functional Communication Assessments and develop Functional Communication Plans
Generate appropriate data collection strategies and measurement systems
Ability to effectively facilitate group meetings and discussions with school and district staff
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including electronic media
Ability to organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
Must be able to travel to schools and students' homes as warranted, and various educational sites within the District.
Able to implement a data-based management system for teachers of students with behavioral difficulties
Strong computer skills

Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, teachers, providers, and parents

Knowledge of State and Federal Law functions and intentions

Provide professional level Applied Behavioral Analysis services to students through Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan development, implementation and monitoring.
Provide in-service training, coaching, and support to staff regarding principles of applied behavioral analysis.
Coordinate, develop, and monitor behavioral services throughout the district.
Assist with providing professional leadership to ensure that Positive Behavior Supports are implemented according to district priorities.
Provide input to schools and district personnel regarding procedures developed to address students' behavioral needs.
Maintain training in positive behavioral strategies used to prevent and deescalate behavior by attending refresher courses within a designated timeframe.
Advises and assists district in identifying and providing district-wide trainings, relating to special education and early childhood development, to relevant district and school personnel.
Establishes and maintains positive collaboration with families of students.
Establishes and maintains positive collaboration with outside public and private agencies available to assist families of special needs students at the early childhood level such as with schools, universities, community service providers, and the Public Education Department.
Presents a comprehensive report about assessment results during Individualized Educational Program (IEP) team meetings.
Makes recommendations to the IEP team based on the findings of each assessment and specific to the identified disability as it relates to classroom performance and access to core curriculum
Perform other duties as assigned
