The Concord School District, located in New Hampshire's capital city, is comprised of eight neighborhood elementary schools, one middle school and one comprehensive high school. District preschool programs take place in two elementary schools, and Title I preschools are at three schools. The Advance program at White Farm offers special programming for students from the high school. In addition, the Regional Career and Technology Center at Concord High School provides two-year vocational programs for juniors and seniors from surrounding high schools.
MISSION: The mission of the Concord School District is to enable every student to achieve and demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attitudes to be a responsible world citizen committed to personal, family and community well being.
GOALS: When our students cross the stage at Memorial Field at graduation, we want our students to be active, self-directed learners; effective communicators; effective collaborators; informed decision makers; creative producers; life planners; and community participants.
These goals provide the framework for our curriculum.
LITERACY INITIATIVE: The Concord School District gives special focus to the goal of enabling every student to be an effective communicator who is able to read widely and in depth and is able to write well. We are committed to accelerating the progress of students in these areas of literacy.
Each year, every school must select specific goals in reading and/or writing and engage in purposeful strategies and activities to improve the reading and writing performance of their students. Students complete reading and writing assessments throughout the year. Teachers use assessment results to develop instructional plans tailored to the needs of students. In late spring, every teacher completes a literacy project report. School teams summarize the progress of their schools in a report to the Superintendent.
The Concord School District is a member of a consortium of school districts in New Hampshire and Maine working together to learn how to best use data to improve instruction and track the progress of students over time.
MATHEMATICS: The Concord School District uses the standards based math program, Everyday Math, in grades K through 6. Students learn to think and communicate mathematically in order to calculate and solve problems. The district's state assessment scores in math indicate the positive impact of this program on the mathematical development of our students.
TECHNOLOGY: The Concord School Board has had a strong commitment to the use of technology as tools for learning by teachers and students. The Concord School District has been a leader in developing technology that provides access to curriculum and instruction for all students, including those with very special learning needs.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Concord's standards and expectations for professional development and re-certification of the teaching and administrative staff are high. All four hundred plus teachers participate in yearlong study groups led by teacher leaders on topics related to district goals and their individualized professional development plan. The district has partnership programs with Plymouth State College, Keene State College, Upper Valley Teacher Training Program, the University of New Hampshire and New England College. Teachers may earn credit towards advanced degrees by participating in select district programs under the supervision of college and university supervisors.
The Concord School District is built on a strong tradition of quality education in the capital city.
