Genesee Intermediate School District Service Mission

Genesee Intermediate School District is a premier regional educational service agency addressing the changing needs of over 82,000 students and more than 8,500 educators as we move towards the year 2000. Our service area encompasses the 21 school districts in Genesee County.

Staff serve local schools by providing assistance to students and educators in the following areas:

- Curriculum planning and evaluation
- Energy conservation management techniques
- English as a second language
- Grants and development
- Health education and school food services
- Instructional technology and software library
- Language arts
- Marketing and public relations
- Math, science and outdoor education
- Programs for the gifted and talented
- School improvement
- Social studies/general education
- Staff development and training activities
- Technology and computer networking

Special education, including administrative support, consultants, social workers, psychologists, teachers for homebound/hospitalized, occupational and physical therapy, speech and special education vocational assessment are provided. Educational centers and Project CHOICE sites are operated for the severely mentally and severely multiply impaired, trainable mentally impaired, autistic and preprimary impaired students. School-to-work, career/technical education, information processing, teleprocessing, REMC 14 including special education materials, Ligon Outdoor Center - an environmental education center, Mott Middle College, and legislative services are offered by Genesee ISD.

Genesee ISD conducts seminars and workshops for educators, experimental programs, inservice sessions, diagnostic testing and vocational rehabilitation services. Comprehensive services for youth employment, training and retraining of the displaced worker are provided on a year-round basis. Specialized administrative activities include child accounting and transportation, processing of state reports, teacher certification and criminal records check, conducting of surveys and preparation of research reports.
