Detroit Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Instructional Specialist - Social Studies (6 Ė 12) - Eligibility Pool 2017-18

Location: Central Hub

Regular/Temporary: Regular

Salary Range: DFT Salary Schedule

In accordance with the Agreement between Detroit Federation of Teachers and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.

Reports to: Principal/Designee

Education and Experience:
- Must possess and provide evidence of a Masterís Degree with twenty hours (20) of course work in the specified content area: and a Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Social Studies (RX) 6-12.
- Five (5) years successful certified contract-teaching experience in Social Studies content area

Duties/Responsibilities and Functions:
- Supports the development and implementation of the Districtís curriculum through an on-going process of planning for innovation, change and continuous academic improvement
- Assist teachers in implementing a developmental content area, developing and identifying materials for students; and relating instruction to Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCE), High School Content Expectations and Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) objectives
- Provide teachers with research based instructional strategies and model their use in the specified content area
- Assist teachers in the implementation of direct instruction; indirect instruction (self-selection/self-monitoring activities); and diagnostic/prescriptive teaching, including an in-class tutorial plan for students
- Work with teachers to jointly collect and examine student achievement data (MEAP, MIP, MME/ACT) and use to determine the areas of focus and intervention
- Assist teachers with classroom management strategies in planning for instruction, development of lesson plans, grouping to meet individual needs and organizing the classroom
- Provide follow-up support and ongoing professionally embedded assistance to staff
- Assist content area teachers with the use of reading and writing instruction in the content areas (reading to learn and writing as a learning tool)
- Provide in-service activities in the specific content area curriculum for teachers, support staff, parents, and administrators
- Participate in and support local school planning teams
- Share information with school teams on the progress of students
- Supports the development and implementation of the Districtís curriculum through an on- going process of planning for innovation, change and continuous academic improvement
- Perform other instructional specialist responsibilities as assigned by the Principal (or Designee)
