In 1990 Hillsdale College established the Hillsdale Academy to further its
commitment to educational reform in America. From its inception, the Hillsdale Academy, following Hillsdale College, has derived its mission from an appreciation of the ‘inestimable blessings of civil and religious liberty’ found in the United States. Its mission is born from the conviction that the perpetuation of those blessings requires the ‘diffusion of learning.’ To accomplish this goal, the Academy provides local children with a curriculum stressing basic skills and logical analysis, while conveying the best spiritual, intellectual, and cultural traditions of the West. The Academy has grown, prospered, and matured because of its devotion to the principles of sound, rigorous academics coupled with its dedication to teaching moral virtue and civic duty. It now includes both the original Lower School (K-8) and since 1998 an Upper School (9-12).
