Summer Friends Day Camps Info

Mission Statement
Summer Friends Day Camps provide safe and enjoyable learning experiences for people age four and older in a natural setting, emphasizing Quaker values.

Welcome to Summer Friends Day Camps
We are located on the wooded, 140-acre campus of Sandy Spring Friends School (SSFS). Summer Friends Day Camps are known for our variety of programs, our wonderful facilities and knowledgeable, nurturing staff. Most of our counselors are college-aged or older. Our counselor to camper ratio of 1:6 to 1:8 varies with each camp. Summer Friends Day Camps emphasize Quaker values such as honesty, simplicity, nonviolence and stewardship. We aim to provide your children with interesting, fun camps, where they can learn new skills, expand their creativity and meet new friends.

A Word About All Our SFDC Staff
Stephanie Nankin, camp director, directed the District of Columbia Jewish Community Center Day Camps for the last five summers and is excited to join the Summer Friends Day Camps (SFDC) staff! Our administrative team includes Curtiss Belcher, (4th season) assistant director primarily responsible for sports camps, Kate Santorineos, (SFDC, 10th season, SSFS 19 years) assistant director primarily responsible for arts and Friends camps, Mary Morais, (9th season) office manager and registrar, Terrance McMahon, (10th season) registrar.

Each year SFDC employs about 120 staff, about 60% who have worked with us before. About 40% have ties to SSFS as teachers, parents, coaches, alumni or students. These people are the primary reason why we have such high quality programs. All of our staff are carefully selected, mature individuals who care greatly about children. We want your child’s time at SFDC to be a summer to remember!

Summer Friends Day Camps do not discriminate on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, disability, national or ethnic origin in admissions, or in the administration of our educational, athletic, and other camp programs or in our employment policies. In fact, we strive toward inclusivity.
