Highland Community College, a fully accredited, comprehensive public two-year college, is one of 19 community colleges in Kansas and has the distinction of being the first institution of higher education in the state with a charter date of February 9, 1858. The campus is located in the small town of Highland in Doniphan County in the northeast corner of the state. The town, with a population of approximately 900 people, is in an area characterized by wooded hills, rolling pastures, agricultural abundance, and friendly communities. Although its taxing district includes only Doniphan County, the College has a state-designated service area of seven other adjoining counties. The College offers a solid transfer curriculum including several associate degree options, as well as certificate programs and job-specific training. A traditional college life is offered at HCC with 10 varsity sports, housing for nearly 400 students, and all the student services typically associated with the college experience.
