Wichita Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

MTSS Facilitator (2017/2018 School Year)

Location: Unassigned

Position Function: Facilitators will ensure provision of professional development and coaching relating to MTSS infrastructure and implementation through modeling, coaching and data analysis. They are deployed centrally for the purpose of supporting schools in the implementation of a Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS) and sustainable school improvement efforts.

Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Equipment: This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259’s guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Establish continuing professional relationships with building principals, lead coaches, teachers, and support staff
- Create and administer a communication plan that provides information and data on a frequent basis to all relevant teams and personnel
- Support implementation by conducting classroom observations and providing feedback to the teacher and leadership team
- Work collaboratively to create and effectively deliver information and instruction to staff
- Support continual intellectual development of teachers (in small communities)
- Help teachers develop leadership skills to build capacity with which they can support the work of their colleagues through professional learning
- Specifically train teachers, principals and other instructional staff with the use of targeted evidence-based instructional practices/strategies for academics and behavior (one-to-one, small group, whole staff)
- Maintain current knowledge of state standards and district curriculum to facilitate instructional support in all core curricular areas
- Help to establish a safe environment in which teachers can strive to improve their practice
- Use and interpret data to determine teachers’/grade levels’/buildings’ needs
- Help teachers transfer what they learn about new practices to their classrooms
- Provide access to rich experiential demonstrations of specific teaching approaches (co-planning, co-teaching, modeling)
- Through coaching, facilitate reflection on instructional practices and responses
- Provide on-going support and real time coaching as staff implements the instructional practices/strategies
- Differentiate adult learning experiences in ways that make content relevant and enable learning
- Facilitate the staff in using and interpreting academic and behavioral data to determine professional development that supports the goals of MTSS and the school improvement plan
- Facilitate the staff in using and interpreting data to adjust instruction, curriculum and environment to inform school improvement decisions
- Assist school in analyzing data to identify student achievement problems and alterable variables which are related to student underachievement
- Monitor fidelity of implementation of MTSS and AIMS web, district protocols for Tiers 1,2,3
- Facilitate, monitor and support with progress monitoring data
- Evaluate the impact of intervention plans
- Analyze response to intervention and support refinement as needed
- Continuously review student data to determine effectiveness of core and supplemental instruction
- Outcome measures (trend and cohort data)
- Screening data
- Progress monitoring data
- Work to build capacity within district and schools to promote sustainability of effective school improvement practices
- Help schools align new initiatives to maximize their school improvement potential and reduce anxiety
- Promote consensus building, infrastructure development/refinement, and effective MTSS implementation
- Ensure consensus around selected instructional practices/strategies for behavior and academics across all settings
- Implement a process to check the fidelity of instructional practices/strategies for behavior and academics across all settings with feedback and coaching to staff provided throughout the year
- Support a structure for school improvement that facilitates, fosters, and promotes prevention and early intervention practices
- Help teachers develop leadership skills with which they can support the work of their colleagues
- Attend all Friday Learning Services Professional Development sessions and other professional development activities as communicated including all MTSS state leadership trainings
- Complete all 8 days of Initial Cognitive Coaching training within the first year as a facilitator, and incorporate the practices into work with staff
- Implement distributed cognition-learning from colleagues and relying on colleagues
- Advanced Technology Skills (subject to verification via testing)
- Experience presenting to large groups and small groups of adult learners
- Ability to work with limited supervision; willing to initiate and finish projects on own initiative
- Ability to manage multiple projects/deadlines simultaneously
- Display a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
- Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
- Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information
- Ability to communicate effectively with a Supervisor when their discretion is needed
- Basic computer proficiency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook which will be determined and validated by testing
- Must be detailed oriented
- Knowledge of various types of materials and procedures used in the area is essential
- Ability to handle multiple priorities

- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors
- Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
- Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues
- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service

Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position

Qualification Profile:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Teaching license required
- Minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience in a variety of grade levels
- Master’s degree preferred
