Wichita Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Custodian 1

Location: School Service Center

8 hours per day/40 hours per week/260 days per year
Range C

Position Function: The primary job of the Custodian 1 is to provide custodial services at the School Service Center (SSC), and provide a clean, safe and sanitary environment for students and staff. May be assigned to second shift at various periods throughout the year, but this position will be primarily first shift (10:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.)

Essential Performance Responsibilities:
Perform special custodial duties as assigned which may include, but not be limited to:
- Buff hard floors
- High dusting including ductwork cleaning
- Replace light bulbs as needed
- Clean whiteboards
- Strip, seal and wax floors
- Wash walls and furniture
- Clean carpets
- Snow removal
- Contractor clean up
- Chemical audits
- Special cleaning projects for specific events
- Report building maintenance needs or supplies and equipment needs to Custodial Staff and/or Supervisor.
- Inspect assigned area for cleanliness and quality work and report needs to Custodial Staff and/or Supervisor.
- Respond to emergencies requiring additional custodial support
- Perform other duties as necessary or requested by the Custodial Manager, Custodial Supervisor or Division Director of Facilities

Additional Duties:
- Attendance at required meetings.
- Overtime may be required.

Equipment: The Custodian 1 must have good working knowledge of all district custodial equipment including, but not limited to; upright vacuums, back-pack vacuums, auto-scrubbers, burnishers, carpet scrubbers, wet/dry vacuums, touch-less restroom cleaners, power-washers, dilutions systems, paper dispensers, mop systems, and floor finish applicators.

Travel: Travel is not required.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards: Must meet the required level on the Physical Capacity Profile (PCP), which will require the applicant to be able to climb stairs and/or ladders, exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly, have the ability to squat, bend, stoop, reach, push and pull.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate both verbally and written with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information.
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
- Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
- Exhibit a professional manner and a positive attitude.
- Knowledge of procedures for hazardous materials and bio-hazardous materials.
- Knowledge of custodial duties and functions as required by the APPA Level 2 or higher standards.
- Knowledge of procedures for hazardous materials and bio-hazardous materials.
- Intermediate computer competency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Must be able to read and comprehend MSDS information.
- Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance.

Interrelations: Contact with all levels of building and district personnel, students, parents, rental groups, and the community.

Qualification Profile:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must have valid Driver’s License and maintain it throughout employment.
- Completion of Proficiency of Custodial Operations certificate preferred.
