Position Function: Provides leadership for a dynamic team whose mission is to champion the success of district students, staff and schools through focused and creative marketing initiatives. The manager will serve as the primary contact for community partners who seek a meaningful relationship with the district in support of students and staff, and is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of initiatives to recruit, recognize and retain strategic partners. The manager will enjoy a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and have the ability to develop creative solutions, make confident decisions, and be an advocate for public education.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

- Leadership for annual Choices Fair event, serving as a co-lead of the planning team, facilitating creative and advertising development as well as pre- and during-event promotional activities.
- Coordinates and executes annual marketing plan, including marketing initiatives designed to achieve key district objectives and convey key messages, placement of paid media and development/supervision of creative materials.
- Collaborates with news and media relations team to recommend stories that celebrate key district priorities relating to partners and volunteers, write and photograph those stories when/if necessary, and work with the team to fully leverage the opportunity to share the stories with key district stakeholders.
- Writes and edits district marketing material as appropriate, communicating important and complex issues in publicly-accessible language.
- Conducts and monitors research, implements action plans aimed at continuously improving district marketing vehicles.

Strategic Partnerships
- Understands and identifies partner needs at school and district sites, and oversees development of an annual partner opportunity menu to guide program work. This work includes identification of school constraints to recruit, recognize and retain volunteers; and solutions to address these constraints.
- Develops, implements, and supervises the recruitment, recognition and retention plan for district partners and volunteers based on annual needs assessment, on-going evaluation. This includes database of partner organizations, individuals, and meaningful/feasible assessment of volunteer/partner engagement in schools.
- Co-leader of recently redeveloped district strategic partner support team to unify district partnership recruitment, recognition and retention work. As part of this work:
* Provides (and revise as necessary) training for community volunteers who interact with students as part of our strategic partnerships.
* Trains and provides on-going support to school-based volunteer site contacts.
* Collaborates with Family Engagement team to support family engagement site contacts.
* Provides volunteer training as requested.
- Works collaboratively with organizations that provide volunteers in schools (Big Brothers/Big Sisters, JA, Pando Initiative, others) to ensure training is implemented based on district expectations; and recognition is appropriate to honor the partnerships.
- Regular and direct contact with district partners managed through this office, awareness of partnerships managed by other offices; and prompt response to potential partners who inquire about opportunities for new relationships.
- Leverages community relationships to cultivate additional partners.
- Oversees volunteer background check process, ensuring 24-hour turnaround and feedback to building leaders
- Attends Board of Education meetings as may be necessary to support recognition of district partners.
- Oversees graphic design and marketing specialist, strategic partner specialist (shared position with division director/division secretary), cooperative education student, providing leadership and evaluation to this team of creative professionals.
- Provides on-call support before and after normal work hours to district staff on marketing and partner matters.
- Serves on district committees as appropriate, when purpose aligns with marketing and strategic partnership mission.
- Stays abreast of professional practices in the field of school marketing and partner development through participation in professional organizations such as the National/Kansas School Public Relations Association, Council of Great City Schools, and/or other key community organization.

Additional Duties: Other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Division Director of Strategic Communications and the Superintendent.

Equipment: This position requires the ability to use iPads, smartphone, and DSLR camera equipment in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259 guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Frequent travel within the school district, occasional out of district travel is required.

- Commitment of time outside the regular workday schedule to meet necessary deadlines, provide advice and counsel to district administration, complete current job assignments and maintain customer satisfaction.

- Perform multiple tasks during the same period of time.

- Evening and weekend work may be required.
- Attendance is required at meetings.
- Continuous upgrade of skills required.
- May sit at computer, stand or walk for long periods of time depending on circumstance

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Stellar customer relations skills, representing the WPS with community partners, volunteers and other external stakeholders of diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to lead a dynamic, creative professional staff to achieve division and district objectives.
- Commitment to confidentiality is essential in this high-exposure position. Violation of confidentiality expectations will not be tolerated.
- Proven community background and connections that will enable the candidate to immediately and consistently interface with community organizations and businesses in support of partner and marketing objectives. Candidate must have a track record of successful relationships with community organizations/businesses.
- Familiarity with district strategic priorities and expectations; ability to meaningfully articulate connection of partners to this work.
- Impeccable writing and public speaking skills.
- Willingness to regularly visit schools, develop knowledge of school partner needs.
- Advocate for public education, with direct WPS experience desired.
- Knowledge of marketing and media buying channels in order to interact/buy directly or effectively work with vendors to perform such services on the districtís behalf.
- Understanding of graphic design creative and production cycle in order to effectively supervise creative staff.
Intermediate knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, problem solve and meet deadlines, often-times in a fast-moving, stressful environment.
- Ability to de-escalate volatile situations and work well with public.
- Knowledge of best-practices in the profession, as well as district policies and procedures, and the ability to apply professional discretion in daily conduct.

Qualification Profile:
- Bachelorís degree in strategic communication, marketing or related field.
- Minimum 5 years professional experience desired.
- Extensive knowledge and proven practice of partner cultivation and relationships.
- Advocate for public education who is passionate about supporting student success.
- Desired experience with WPS schools/classrooms as student, parent and/or teacher.
- Experience supervising a creative, high-producing team desired.
