Indianapolis Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Assistant Principal (12 month)

Location or Department: Merle Sidener Gifted Academy

Summary of Essential Job Functions: Assist the elementary school principal(s) in providing leadership in academic program development and supervision.

Qualifications: Master's Degree required. A minimum of three years teaching experience in education and experience as an assistant principal. Appropriate Indiana Certificate for School Administration and Supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and direction to teachers for the instructional program, commensurate with the requirements of the Indiana Department of Education, the Board of School Commissioners, and the educational needs of the students.

Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations.

Assist the school principal in all matters related to the instructional program.

Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records and reports for the State of Indiana, Board of School Commissioners, and the school.

In the absence of the building principal, serves as the key administrator when designated to assume the responsibility by the principal or the superintendent.

Work cooperatively with the Office of Research and Student Assessment when managing student achievement and graduation data.

Plan and supervise school student activity programs as assigned by the principal.

Represent the school and District in a positive and professional manner.

Assist in the administration and monitoring of standardized testing policies and processes.

Assist in arranging or delivering professional development and in-service training for all staff.

Enforce student discipline code of conduct.

Encourage and facilitate parental involvement as well as establish and maintain relationships with the community.

Assist the principal to create and maintain a safe and secure environment for students and staff by implementing the building safety plan and ensure building is supervised at all times students are present.

Stay abreast of current research, theory, and trends related to high-performing schools.

Coordinate extra-curricular activities and provide or designate supervision.

Work with web master to maintain an inviting, up-to-date web presence for school.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
