Indianapolis Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Education Diagnostician

Location or Department: Special Education

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

- Implements and maintains a comprehensive program of diagnostic services for the district, which adequately meets all local, state, and federal requirements.
- Conducts and coordinates re-evaluation and initial evaluations of students referred for evaluation to determine eligibility for special education services.
- Composes a written report that addresses each aspect affecting a childís education in the Least Restrictive Environment that meets Article 7 timelines.
- Interprets a variety of data from various professionalsí evaluation data to the case conference committee and makes recommendations for remediation of student deficiencies; makes recommendations for appropriate placement of students with disabilities.
- Provides assistance to regular and special education teachers in the area of formal student assessment and assists, as needed, in the implementation of the individual educational plan.
- Consults with administrators, counselors, teachers, nurses, related service professionals, and parents regarding gathered data.
- Insures compliance with state and federal requirements relating to educational assessments and paperwork.
- Maintains confidentiality of student records.
- Assures that procedural safeguards have been explained to parents.

Education and Experience:
- Masterís Degree in Special Education
- 5 years teaching experience in special education

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Valid Indiana License in special education (Mild Intervention)

Specific qualifications include:

- Working knowledge of federal and state special education laws (IDEA and Article 7), rules, and practices;
- Broad knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and methodology of special education;
- Broad knowledge of Indiana and IPS special education policies, procedures and programs;
- Strong program or project management experience with extraordinary attention to detail and professionalism, and the ability to organize, plan and execute multiple projects simultaneously;
- Ability to adapt to changes quickly, proposing and implementing thoughtful solutions;
- Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Google Sheets/Forms/Docs;

Outstanding interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to communicate well with stakeholders at all levels, and collaborate, attain and grow effective partnerships to meet common goals;

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
The Educational Diagnostician directly manages multiple communication systems, programs, supports, and resources for parents to better establish relationships with schools, staff, and partner organizations. This position has no direct reports.

Personal Work Relationships:
The individual in this position works with a wide range of IPS staff, partners, administrators and service providers on routine and diverse problems encountered to fulfill its special education duties. The individual must possess and employ a variety of personal and interpersonal skills in the discharge of the positionís responsibilities. This position requires a positive attitude when dealing with staff and IPS constituents. Good judgment, discretion and individual initiative are necessary for the effective discharge of the positionís significant responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and use hands to complete tasks requiring fine motor skills including writing and typing. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
