Indianapolis Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

School Psychologist

Location or Department: Special Education

Summary: School psychologists provide direct and indirect services to students including but not limited to evaluations to determine eligibility for special education services, assist in the development of behavior and academic intervention plans and consult with the Response to Instruction building based team. School psychologists will be part of the safety teams of each school building. School psychologists are viewed as an important resource for school staff and parents. School psychologists may conduct individual and group counseling sessions on an as needed basis. This position is a 10-month role.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

- Demonstrates knowledge of applicable Federal and State special education law.
- Maintains and submits accurate records while handling information in a private and confidential manner.
- Demonstrates repertoire of psychological skills, techniques, and assessments.
- Conduct psycho-educational evaluations, which may include; intellectual, emotional. social, adaptive, and academic functioning, in an appropriate testing environment.
- Participates on building level Multidisciplinary Team (M-Team) and adheres to established time lines and procedures.
- Counsels pupils individually and in groups to assist pupils to achieve personal, social and emotional growth.
- Collaborates with teachers and other school personnel on methods to enhance student's educational
- Performance. [e.g. assisting with writing Individual Education Plans (IEP), conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)]
- Supports Response to Instruction (RtI) and assists with data gathering and analysis.
- Is aware of and takes into account pertinent IPS programs and external resources. Organizes work schedule and materials effectively.
- Engages in continuing professional development in order to keep abreast of current procedures, research, and techniques in the field.
- Available for building and district-wide crisis intervention.
- Participates in teams to develop building-wide programs to improve school climate.
- Supervises students of school psychology during their training and or mentor school psychologists during their first years of practice.
- Signs Medicaid referral for Speech/Language Services, Occupational Therapy Services and other services as required by the Director of Special Education.

Education and Experience:
Master's degree (M.S or M.A) plus 30 hours, Ed.S., E.D.D.,or Ph.D. in school psychology or training that allows licensing as a school psychologist in the state of Indiana.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Valid Indiana License in School Psychology.

Specific qualifications include:

- Working knowledge of federal and state special education laws (IDEA and Article 7), rules, and practices;
- Broad knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and methodology of special education;
- Broad knowledge of Indiana and IPS special education policies, procedures and programs;
- Strong program or project management experience with extraordinary attention to detail and professionalism, and the ability to organize, plan and execute multiple projects simultaneously;
- Ability to adapt to changes quickly, proposing and implementing thoughtful solutions;
- Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Google Sheets/Forms/Docs;

Outstanding interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to communicate well with stakeholders at all levels, and collaborate, attain and grow effective partnerships to meet common goals;

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
The School Psychologist directly manages multiple communication systems, programs, supports, and resources for parents to better establish relationships with schools, staff, and partner organizations. This position has no direct reports.

Personal Work Relationships:
The individual in this position works with a wide range of IPS staff, partners, administrators and service providers on routine and diverse problems encountered to fulfill its special education duties. The individual must possess and employ a variety of personal and interpersonal skills in the discharge of the positionís responsibilities. This position requires a positive attitude when dealing with staff and IPS constituents. Good judgment, discretion and individual initiative are necessary for the effective discharge of the positionís significant responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and use hands to complete tasks requiring fine motor skills including writing and typing. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
