Details: Indianapolis Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s): Special Education Teacher Elementary - Severe Disabilities Location or Department: James Russell Lowell Job Summary: Teaches basic academic subjects to students requiring modified or adapted work, using special techniques or programs to improve behavior and/or academic achievement by performing the following duties. Qualifications and Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university. At least three (3) years of successful teaching experience. Valid Indiana Teaching License in Special Education. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Teaches basic subjects such as reading and math, applying lesson techniques designed for short attention spans. Administers achievement tests and evaluates test results to discover level of language and math skills. Selects and teaches reading material and math problems related to everyday life of individual student. Confers with school counselors, school psychologists, and teaching staff to, obtain additional testing information and to gain insight on student behavioral disorders affecting the learning process. Designs special help programs for low achievers and encourages parent teacher cooperation Attends professional meetings, writes reports, and maintains records. Discusses pupils' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents.
