Indianapolis Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Instructional Coach for Life Skills & Autism - Secondary

Location or Department: Special Education

Purpose of Position/Summary: Provides educational and behavioral assistance and support to school staff working with students with autism spectrum disorder and significant disabilities in the general education setting. Directly supports the implementation of all special education Life Skills and Autism supports, resources, and relationships with parents, school staff, and partner organizations.

Qualifications:
- Special Education Licensure;
- Working knowledge of federal and state special education laws (IDEA and Article 7), rules, and practices;
- Broad knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and methodology of special education;
- Broad knowledge of Indiana and IPS special education policies, procedures and programs;
- Ability to be creative in developing alternatives to meet special education needs at each school;
- A track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with and among a diverse group of actors;
- Excellent communication skills and strong analytical and writing capabilities;
- Proactive nature; ability to work independently as well as collaboratively

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan/implement staff development & parent education relating to special education, inc. post-secondary options
- Participate in monthly Transition Team meetings
- Work closely with staff to coordinate, manage, assess needs, and determine student assignment in regards to special education life skills programs
- Serve as a resource for school staff and families, including Project SEARCH & IUPUI SITE
- Community-based instruction opportunities
- Assist in compiling data required by special ed programs
- Support Case Conference process as needed
- Coordinate & attend Manifest Determination conferences
- Collaborate on developing Behavior Intervention Plans
- Assist in planning of district Professional Development
- Participate as a member of the Autism Team
- Perform other duties assigned by the coordinator

Working Conditions:
The employee is regularly required to use hands, talk, hear and see. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
