Indianapolis Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Special Education Teacher - Satellite

Location or Department: Special Education

Job Summary: Teaches elementary and secondary school subjects to students with emotional or learning impairments in residential settings by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other instructional materials, utilizing Indiana state standards, to meet individual needs of students, considering such factors as physical, emotional, and educational levels of development.

Confers with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and others to develop individual educational plan for student.

Instructs students in academic subjects and social interaction skills.

Observes students for signs of harmful or problematic behavior.

Collects behavioral and academic data on students.

Conducts case conferences.

Teaches socially acceptable behavior employing behavior management techniques and positive reinforcement.

Participates as a team member with facilities’ staff to plan programs designed to promote educational, physical, and social development of students.

Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in Education from four-year college or university.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Indiana Teacher's License in Mild Interventions.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
