Transformation Coach (K-12)

Location or Department: Associate Superintendent

Summary: IPSís Transformation Coaches will serve on one of the districtís two Transformation Zone (TZs) teams as a critical member and subject matter expert in Instruction and Data K-12 and school improvement. The Transformation Coach will guide the strategy in their area of subject matter expertise as a member of the districtís Transformation Zone. The Transformation Zone is intended to be a protected space within the IPS West Learning Community that will design and deliver innovative, flexible structures and services that are responsive to school-site needs in order to drive dramatic, transformational improvement in student achievement. Reporting to one of two Learning Community Directors Ė TZ, Transformation Coach will be tasked with building and leveraging the existing capacity within their assigned TZ and subject matter expertise to change outcomes and conditions within assigned TZ schools: rapid increases in student achievement, positive climates for student success, effective engagement of parents and community, and the development of high performing faculty and leadership teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction and Data K-12
- Provide subject matter expertise in a specific area of instruction: elementary, English, Math, middle school and/or high school
- Provide subject matter expertise in data analysis and data-drive decision making within instruction and/or other areas of school operations
- Ensures instruction in TZ schools aligns with curricula demands, student needs, and the Mastery Learning Instructional Framework
- Develop, support and/or execute, in conjunction and collaboration with district departments, a comprehensive academic strategy for assigned TZ schools that includes an acute focus on professional learning communications, the elements of backwards design, and Mastery Learning
- Develop and/or implement a robust performance monitoring strategy, including data collection tools and processes through which data will be analyzed and disseminated to schools
- Build school-level capacity to use data to drive decision-making and differentiate instructional strategies (e.g. PD, data protocols, data walls, RtI)
- Support the efforts of school-based instructional leadership teams
- Provide instructional programming support as needed
- Develop professional development strategy for teachers and other school-based staff that further the instructional vision established for the TZ cluster and/or designs and facilitates monthly content specific training for teachers and building level coaches
- Lead data analysis strategy sessions with TZ schools and/or TZ teams
- Build data analysis capacity of TZ schools as relevant
Regularly review TZ data to ensure TZ strategy remains grounded in real-time data and to catch early signs of successes or dangers
- Aids in the development of teachersí knowledge of content and best practices in delivery
- Supports building level coaches and teachers in developing plans for instruction
- Supports the capacity building of building level coaches by modeling and co-teaching lesson
- Provides debriefing opportunities for building level coaches
- Manage all relevant data for compliance reports
- Coordinate with Communications to provide and frame TZ data to external stakeholders
- Coordinate with relevant district offices related to academics and data accountability for all necessary training, resources, and information to support TZ leadership staff and TZ schools
- Manage performance contracts with external and supporting partners related to instruction and/or academics for assigned TZ schools

Leadership and Vision
- Participate as an active team member on assigned TZ cluster team and within TZ
- Coordinate with various district departments (e.g., HR, operations, family and community engagement, finance) to ensure that TZ Schools are prioritized/receive necessary, timely supports
- Build a coalition of teachers, students, community and family members to advocate for the Zone;
- Promote collaboration between TZ clusters
- Identify successful and promising practices and models within the Zone and outside of the district; support schools in the replication of these practices and models
- Support, develop and review school improvement plans in collaboration with LCD
- Provide as needed technical assistance, professional development, and leadership development support;
- Act as a public champion for IPSís Transformation Zone efforts

Supervisory Responsibilities: Any as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
- Must be deemed Highly Qualified in accordance with the Indiana Department of Education or their last state of employment
- Minimum of 3-5 years of successful classroom teaching experience and working with other teachers (Demonstrated success closing student achievement gaps as a teacher, leader, and/or professional
- Strong organizational and management skills
- Knowledge of Mastery Learning Instructional Framework
- Strong communication skills in multiple settings and the ability to maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to strategically guide decisions within TZ purview
- Collaborative and consultative management style, with a proven track record of working with diverse individuals at all levels (internal and external) to drive data-driven decision-making and results
- High degree of professionalism, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities, while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking.
- Ability to be visionary and apply creative thinking
- Ability to balance conviction with responsiveness, maintaining high expectations while working within a field requiring flexibility
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
