Details: Indianapolis Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s): Lead School Psychologist Location or Department: Special Education Purpose of Position/Summary: The Learning Community Lead School Psychologist organizes and manages special education psychological supports, resources, and services across the Learning Community in addition to maintaining a reduced school psychologist caseload. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: The Learning Community Lead School Psychologist collaborates with the Learning Community Special Education Director to coordinate the day-to-day execution of testing, resources, and supports for school psychologists. The Learning Community Lead School Psychologist specifically: - Provides leadership and collaboration to ensure that school psychology initiatives are student-focused and aligned with the vision of the IPS Special Education Department; - Demonstrates thorough knowledge of special education and general education issues relating to services necessary for student success; - Facilitates policy and procedure orientation for new school psychologists, interns, and practicum students including but not limited to evaluation timelines, MET report procedures, and training for Go Claim Medicaid Billing, and Indiana IEP; - Coordinates assignments of mentors to newly hired school psychologists as well as serving as supervisor for interns and practicum students; - Designs and facilitates school psychologist meetings and professional development days; - Serves as liaison to coordinate crisis team response; - Collaborates with Emotional & Behavioral Services Coordinator to facilitate high quality mental health services for students, including managing relationships with mental health providers; - Assists in training administrators on the roles and responsibilities of school psychologists, including but not limited to criteria for effective evaluation of school psychologists; - Identifies school psychologist feedback, issues, and concerns and develops solutions with the support and expertise of other team members; - Monitors caseload sizes and makes recommendations to the Special Education Learning Community Director and Special Education Director regarding school assignments based on the needs of the district; - Provides resources and supports to school psychologists to improve psychological services for all students; - Makes recommendations for evaluation materials based on knowledge of current standards and revisions to the materials; - Consistently revisits psychological service procedures to ensure continuity services and foresight of potential compliance issues; - Works collaboratively with principals, teachers, parents, and support staff in the development of appropriate supports for students; - Attends case conferences for students as requested/needed; - Communicates effectively, and in a timely manner, with school staff, parents and guardians to address complaints, issues and concerns; - Coordinates and attends interviews for new school psychologists. - Perform duties assigned by the Special Education Learning Community Director. The successful candidate will be discrete, high-energy, agile-minded, strategic, proactive, a direct communicator, highly-organized and committed to the vision and values of Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) and the IPS Special Education Department. In addition, the following standards will generally define the successful incumbent: - Currently a licensed IPS school psychologist; - Has a minimum of 3 years experience as a school psychologist with at least 1 year of experience in IPS; - Identified as “Effective” in last evaluation with preference being given to school psychologists achieving “Highly Effective” status; - Working knowledge of federal and state special education laws (IDEA and Article 7), rules, and practices; - Broad knowledge of Indiana and IPS special education policies, procedures and programs; - Ability to be creative in developing alternatives to meet district, department, school, and student needs; - A track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with and among a diverse group of actors; - Excellent communication skills and strong analytical and writing capabilities; - Close attention to detail coupled with the ability to exercise good judgment; - Strong organizational, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills; - Proactive nature; able to anticipate conflicts before they arise; - Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively; - Ability to execute meetings, calls and emails with professionalism, courtesy and accuracy; - Personal qualities of maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and diligence; and - Ability to effectively allocate and prioritize time to several tasks to ensure completion of all. Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: The Learning Community Lead School Psychologist, in collaboration with the Learning Community Special Education Director, oversees the implementation of psychological supports, resources, and relationships with schools for the Learning Community. The Learning Community Lead School Psychologist will be the point person for school psychologists within the Learning Community. Personal Work Relationships: The individual in this position works with a wide range of IPS staff, partners, administrators and service providers on routine and diverse problems encountered to fulfill its duties. The individual must possess and employ a variety of personal and interpersonal skills in the discharge of the position’s responsibilities. This position requires a positive attitude when dealing with staff and IPS constituents. Good judgment, discretion and individual initiative are necessary for the effective discharge of the position’s significant responsibilities.
