Nampa is located in southwestern Idaho, encompassing 22 square miles, and has a population of about 75,000 within city limits. When including the community’s impact area, population is approaching 100,000.
Nampa School District is the 3 rd largest school district in the state, following the Meridian and Boise School districts. Students and their families are residents of the greater Nampa area and mirror the city’s growth during this period, increasing from approximately 5,700 students in 1990 to over 13,500 in January 2005. The demographics of this population in 2000-01 consisted
of 70% Caucasian, 28% Hispanic, and 2% African-American, Native American, and Asian ethnic groups. The population is also less agricultural in orientation, with many more parents involved in technology-related work.
The sharp increase in student population has resulted in the opening of seven new elementary
schools, a middle school, and a second high school in the last eight years. The third high school,
Columbia High School, recently opened for the 2006-2007 school year.
