Caldwell School District is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

School Nurse

Description:

The school nurse promotes health and safety in the school environment and provides health services to
students, faculty and staff.

SUPERVISES:
Health Support Staff (Licensed Practical Nurses, Medical Assistants, Certified Nurse Assistants,
Health Aides)

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Work in cooperation with school health professionals, staff, parents and community health professionals to ensure a healthy school climate and to minimize absence due to
illness
2. Promote a healthy and safe school environment by assisting the administration and staff to maintain safe and sanitary conditions throughout the school
3. Promptly report health or safety issues to building administration
4. Be responsible for the availability and maintenance of required medical supplies and equipment
5. Provide training and supervision for the emergency administration of epinephrine, automated external defibrillators (AEDS), etc. with designated school staff
6. Assign duties to and provide supervision of Health Support Staff
7. Serve as member of the 504/lEP Team as needed
8. Advise on the development and implementation of student medical accommodations required in the school setting
9. Administer first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures
10. Administer medication to students in accordance with law and/or Board policy
11. Delegate medication administration to Health Support Staff and other non-licensed building staff when necessary and in accordance with law and/or Board policy
12. Conduct home visits as necessary and as requested by building administration
13. Communicate with parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on student health matters
14. Collect, document, and report immunization data as required by the school district and the State of ldaho. Maintain up-to-date health records on all students in cumulative school files and in computerized student management system
15. Advise school personnel on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases
16. Conduct annual health screenings at designated grade levels; refer students for further evaluation as needed and provide follow-up
17. Conduct additional screenings on referred students
18. Conduct health in-service programs for staff and students as needed and as requested by teach ers and administration
19. Participate in staff meetings and professional development programs as needed
20. Coordinate health services and health staff coverage for the school district
21. Participate in the development and implementation of the district's emergency and
crisis management plan
22. Perform other duties as assigned

ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIVITIES
1. Manage budgets for the Health Services Department
2. Collect Health Office inventories and order necessary supplies
3. Submit Travel logs and Travel Expense Claims for health staff
4. Assist in the development of policies and procedures for comprehensive health education and services
5. Working with the School Counselor, report any suspicion of child abuse to the Department of Health and Welfare as well as the building principal
6. Serve on committees as assigned in order to incorporate essential health care information into the deliberations and reports of these committees
7. Complete annual written evaluations of Health Support Staff
8. Supervise submission of School Immunization Reports to ldaho Dept. of H&W
9. Coordinate Employee Wellness Program
