Cedar Rapids Community Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Department Chair

Location: Jefferson High School

Additional Information: The Department Chair will work collaboratively with the Cedar Rapids Community School District Teacher Leadership Team, District Administration, and teaching staff to support teachers and assure that we deliver on the District Vision of Every Learner: Future Ready.

Department Chair Supervised by: Building Administrator

Position Summary:
The department chair will facilitate the collaborative efforts of the department around district, building, and department goals as related to student learning and instruction.

# of Positions: 36 (extra duty only)

Amount of Teacher Leader Service: Additional hours outside of the contract day accompany this position

Compensation: $400.00 annually

Job Requirements:
Iowa Teaching License, three years of teaching experience, and at least one year of experience in the Cedar Rapids Community School District.
A commitment to supporting the growth of others and the belief that adult learning is essential to student learning.

Essential Job Elements:
Provides direction and leadership for the department consistent with the District vision, mission, and focus.

Support, facilitate and promote district and building initiatives.
Attend Department Leader meetings and serve as a liaison between faculty and administration.
Facilitate a collaborative learning environment at monthly department meetings.
Provide leadership for the department achieving district and building goals.
Provide support to new teachers on curriculum, instruction, classroom management, and other department and building functions.
Keep members of your department informed about relevant information from the building, district, and other educational resources.
Share department concerns with building administration.
Work collaboratively with department and building administration to order textbooks and supplies as well as oversee department inventories and budget.
Coordinate with District Curriculum Facilitator regarding PLCs, textbooks, curriculum, etc.
Assist administration with scheduling courses.
Other duties as agreed upon.

Measures of Effectiveness and Professional Growth:
All Teacher Leader positions will be evaluated annually in an effort to provide opportunities for the teacher to reflect upon his/her practice and peers and administration to provide feedback to enhance professional growth.
CRCSD evaluation procedure will be used, including peer review.
Survey of peers in relation to essential job elements.
Personal Reflection on professional growth in relation to essential job elements.
