Details: Clayton County Public Schools is seeking applicants for the following position(s): Special Education Coordinator - Special Programs Location: Student Services Job Description: Department of Exceptional Student’s coordinator provides support to students with mild to moderate disabilities, autism, and sensory disabilities through the implementation of mandates under Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Georgia Continuous Improvement Monitoring Process (GCIMP). Leadership is provided in four key areas of support: IEP processes/ data management, student achievement and parent support, staff support and development of policies and procedures that follow state and federal regulations. - Supervises the delivery of classroom instruction and the development and implementation of individual education programs for students. Consults with IEP and SST teams concerning behavioral strategies for students. Monitors/conducts observations of students related to referrals eligibility and data collection. Facilitates teacher/parent conferences, which may include third parties such as attorneys, parent advocates, and/or representatives of the office of civil rights. Analyzes and interpret student assessment data. - Prepares curriculum supports for students in functional curriculum classrooms. Trains staff and supports staff for student needs. Monitors progress monitoring through the functional curricular tools. - Coordinates extra curricular activities/competitions for students. Counsel staff in crisis situations such as school violence, suspension/expulsions, psychotic episodes and threatened suicides; student health issues such as seizures, head injuries, degenerative disorders and terminal illness. Develops and implements special project grants. Coordinates IEP objectives with Georgia Performance Standards. Monitors state department certification requirements. - Assists with recruitment and selection process of personnel. Monitors and supervises special education lead teachers, and interns; conducts appropriate evaluations (GLEI, GTEP, classroom observations etc.) Conducts needs assessments for the program; plans and delivers professional learning methods and concepts for teachers. - Prepares and monitors program area budget; maintains accurate financial records, inventory of materials, (equipment, etc.) - Liaises with other state, metro agencies, as well as private/public schools and institutions to continually enhance and promote learning for students. Requirements: - Master’s degree in any area of Special Education, or General Education with a teaching certificate in an area of Special Education. Specialist degree preferred. - Minimum 5 years teaching experience within an area of special education. - Prior experience coordinating areas/clusters, District Special Education programs in a K-12 public school environment preferred. - Must have Georgia Professional Certification and be eligible for Georgia Leadership Certificate. Valid GA driver’s license. Salary Range: Paid based on salary scale
