An AdvancED/SACS accredited national online middle & high school based in the Fort Lauderdale area is seeking a teacher for middle school Language Arts.

Qualifications for applicants:
--Must be certified to teach English Language Arts for grades 6-8 (eligibility certificates not acceptable). Certification for grades 6-12 would be preferred.

--Previous online teaching experience is a plus

Although this is a part-time job with limited hours, the teacher is expected to be readily available to help students throughout the day and some in the evening. Therefore, this job is not a good fit for someone who has a full-time day job or other major commitments that limit availability.

Here's how it works: Students work completely on their own schedule; students may start any time of the year and work at their own pace. Therefore, as the teacher, you will be required to keep tabs on the performance of all your students: Are they logging in regularly? Are they keeping pace with their needed progress? You will need to monitor how they are doing on assignments to be aware of any indications that they are not grasping the material, and contacting anyone who is struggling. You will also need to grade written assignments (quizzes & tests are graded by the system automatically). You need to be available to students who contact you for assistance on understanding material. Furthermore, once students have reached the mid-term or final, or if they fail a quiz or test, they are forced to wait for the teacher to review their work and do an oral review with them. It is critical for you as a teacher to be available to them when they reach this point, or else they are stuck and cannot make progress in their course.

You will be required to have a live contact (i.e. webcam) with every student at least once a month, and track your meeting times with every student. You will be expected to become familiar enough with the curriculum that you can make informed judgments about any adjustments needed.

This position begins immediately. The position is 12 months per year, with a 1 week (unpaid) break between Christmas and New Year's. If you need other time off, you can arrange for another teacher to cover for you during your absence. You will work from your home. Estimated hours are 10 to 20 hours per month (not per week -- per month). It largely depends on how many students you have and how much help they need. You should expect to log in no less than every 12 hours (Monday - Friday) and assist any students needing help at that time.
