CSI has been delivering supervision, treatment and comprehensive, individualized services to help socially disadvantaged adults and juveniles in need of supervision, support and treatment for more than thirty-five years. Referrals are received through contracts with all branches of the state and federal juvenile justice and criminal justice systems and social service agencies. Clients include youth and adult offenders and those determined to be at risk of involvement with either the juvenile or criminal justice systems. Day Reporting, residential, outpatient, alternatives to incarceration and aftercare services are provided in 40 programs throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Kansas, Georgia, and New Jersey.
The Agency's philosophy is reflected in the following Mission Statement:
CSI's mission is to serve our communities by providing comprehensive services and developmental opportunities that promote self-reliance, responsibility and accountability to at-risk and disadvantaged populations, persons exhibiting criminal or delinquent behavior, and those in need of care and protection.
The major objectives of CSI are:
To develop programs in response to the demonstrated needs of our clients, referral sources, and the community;
To be outcome driven in order to assure the greatest likelihood of behavioral and attitudinal change in our clients;
To demonstrate our commitment to public safety through the use of high levels of security, treatment and supervision and close working partnerships with all components of the criminal and juvenile justice systems.
To base program design on results of published research regarding effective treatment.
CSI has adopted a standardized approach which uses a research validated instrument that measures both static and dynamic predictive risk factors and client responsibility to treatment. The instrument also measures criminogenic factors. Additionally, clients receive Substance Abuse, Vocational, and Educational Assessments.
The CSI Director of Training and Quality Assurance has been trained as a trainer in Cognitive Behavioral Approaches by the National Institute of Corrections. CSI has since been awarded technical assistance grants through NIC to train additional trainers and staff in Cognitive Behavioral Approaches.
CSI has developed and implemented Performance Based Outcome Measures for all program models.
CSI has achieved American Correctional Association re-accreditation for many Agency programs. The two programs most recently re-accredited achieved 100% compliance with all standards established by ACA for Adult Community Corrections Programs.
CSI has successfully used the resources of the National Institute of Corrections to develop staff with numerous CSI Program Directors having participated in the Correctional Leadership Development seminar offered by NIC. CSI Senior staff have completed the NIC Leadership Excellence training. CSI continues to use this valuable resource through participation in many NIC Seminars, expanding staff skills in providing services to our clients.
CSI encourages membership and participation in such key associations as the American Correctional Association, American Probation and Parole Association, International Community Corrections Association and other regional and local associations pertaining to our work and the professional development of our staff.
