Aspen School District is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Special Education Paraprofessional

Job Description: Aspen School District seeks a special education paraprofessional to begin duties immediately. Applications will begin screening as received until the vacancy is filled.

Reports to: Director of Special Education

Terms of Employment: 9-month classified, Non-exempt, At Will employee.

Work Schedule: As per individual, part-time assignment in keeping with assigned 9 month work calendar.

Position Summary: The Special Education Paraprofessional supports students with special needs academically, socially, and physically in a variety of environments. The position requires the ability to support educational programming as well as advanced communication and collaboration skills.

Principle Responsibilities:
- Collaborates and consults with regular and special education teachers and related service personnel to plan, organize, and implement specific assignments and activities in accordance with IEP goals, providing and/or modifying instruction/curriculum for the student needs
- Monitors the special needs student's classroom behavior, intervening when appropriate and supporting the student while working individually or in small groups
- Performs toileting duties, personal care, and feeding that may be required for the special needs child
- Maintains accurate documentation of activities, student progress, and behavior modification plans
- Helps design and implement communication tools that allow for good information exchange between parent and regular and special education teachers
- Participates in professional development/continuing education programs as required/recommended by the Special Education Director and/or school administrator
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

Position Requirements:
Minimum Education or Formal Training: 2 years successful post secondary education or Associates Degree

Minimum Experience: 1 to 5 years in job related field

Skill Requirements:
- For reasons of safety, applicants must be able to communicate clearly and concisely in English both orally and in writing - bilingual Spanish is a plus
- Working knowledge of computers, including software and databases
- Working knowledge of general office equipment

- Demonstrate professionalism , handling disagreements and conflicts in a diplomatic manner, and contributing to a positive work/learning environment;
- Demonstrate flexibility with regard to interruptions and changing conditions;
- Work efficiently to complete tasks with limited supervision and to meet deadlines;
- Observe all district polices and procedures; and
- Observe all general safety rules, carefully observing correct lifting procedures.

Licenses or Certification: Current CPR/First Aid certificate; CPI certification (trainings are provided by the Aspen School District)

Essential Environmental Demands:
- Mostly clean and comfortable with exposure to noise
- May be exposed to body fluids

Essential Physical Requirements:
- Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs and may be required to lift over 50 lbs based upon the assignment
- Frequent sitting, walking, kneeling, stooping
- Occasional climbing and crawling
- Constant standing
- Repetitive motion

Supervisory Duties: None

Performance Evaluation:
Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions adopted by the administration of the Aspen School District.
