Aspen School District is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Middle School Assistant Principal

Location: Aspen Middle School

Position Summary: The middle school Assistant Principal assists the Principal in leading students, staff, and the school community to fulfill the vision and mission of the school, in order to maximize academic growth/achievement and promote social/emotional student well-being.

Requirements: Candidates must

- Possess or be able to obtain an initial or professional principal's license within the first 3 months of hire;
- Hold a master's degree with emphasis in curriculum, instruction, leadership and administration.

Qualifications:
Well-developed leadership skills in the areas of curriculum and instruction, supervision, human relations and management are essential to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. The Assistant Principal develops and promotes strong community relations among community and school clientele. Candidates must:

- Demonstrate successful experience in school administration;
- Possess knowledge of middle school curriculum and data driven instruction, as well as knowledge of standards-based education;
- Apply skills that address culturally responsive instruction as well as excellence and equity in student achievement;
- Exhibit experience with or knowledge of effective strategies for increasing student achievement;
- Document training and demonstrate skill in evaluation and assessment of teacher performance and knowledge of clinical supervision;
- Utilize skills in positive human relations, communication, leadership, and the application of organizational theory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Principal works with the Principal in the performance of the various leadership responsibilities for successful administration of the school. The specific duties which are assigned by the Principal are as established in the working relationship between Principal and Assistant Principal.

The Assistant Principal shall:
- Be able to work effectively in an environment with high academic expectations and programs designed to foster the development of the whole child;
- Assist leadership in the development and implementation of an instructional program that meets the needs of all learners;
- Possess the knowledge and skills to coach and assist teachers in improving teaching practices;
- Evaluate performance to ensure teachers and other staff are evaluated in a fair, equitable manner with a focus on improving performance and, thus, student achievement;
- Possess strong skills in establishing and maintaining an effective working relationship with the entire school community;
- Have strong technological skills that are compatible with a school district that has prioritized the implementation of technology into the classroom;
- Articulate and model a clear vision of the schoolís culture, including unique programs such as outdoor education, and involve students, families, and staff in promoting a climate that embraces this culture;
- Demonstrate ability to support the initiatives of the Principal;
- Assist in the general operations of the school and serve as Principal in the Principalís absence;
- Coordinate a system for maintaining appropriate student conduct throughout the school to provide an orderly environment conducive for learning;
- Promote an environment of high student achievement by reviewing data and participating in professional development activities;
- Participate in the development of the schoolís unified improvement plan and serve effectively in carrying out the identified action steps and strategies for progress;
- Assist in establishing and maintaining a collaborative culture among staff, and support schedules and systems that allow for collective work of teams within the school;
Implement, evaluate, and supervise student activities and athletics consistent with the educational goals of the school district and the school populations served;
- Appraise, evaluate and counsel the schoolís certified and classified staff as assigned to translate the schoolís educational philosophy, goals, and objectives into action terms that directly benefit the students;
- Assist in developing and maintaining a program of community relations, interpreting activities and policies of the school to encourage community participation in the school;
- Participate in assignment and supervision of student achievement delivery systems in order to effectively provide for students with special needs;
- Promote effective communication between the school and community to create positive support, understanding, and participation for continued school improvement; and
- Perform such tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned or requested.

Salary Range: $88,000.00 - $95,000.00 / Salary
