Aspen School District is seeking qualified applicants for the following position(s):

Middle School and High School Drama / Theatre Teacher 2017-18

Location: Aspen School District

Job Description: Aspen Middle and High Schools seek a long-term substitute Drama/Theatre Teacher to begin duties in December 2017. This position will be a substitute teacher for AHS and AMS theater as well as the Assistant Director for the AHS/AMS Spring musical. This will be as a full time substitute position thorugh April 5, 2018.

Job Summary: The theatre program includes several distinct levels of theatre instruction culminating in the International Baccalaureate program. This teacher must be knowledgeable in both the artistic and technical aspects of theater and will instruct students through the entire sequence, including theory and practice of the elements of theater production and performance, build relationships with our community performing arts programs, and model the work ethic expected in the theatre world.

Supervisor: This teacher reports to the Principals of Aspen Middle and High Schools

Candidates will preferably possess a current, initial or professional Colorado teaching license with an endorsement in Drama K-12 or be eligible to obtain a teaching authorization within the first 3 months of hire.

In Addition, Candidates Will:
- Demonstrate knowledge of State curriculum samples and District drama and theatre arts curriculum.
- Demonstrate expertise in instruction, including knowledge of the ways in which learning takes place and the appropriate levels of cognitive, social, and emotional development of the adolescent.
- Demonstrate a willingness to work with our communities extensive visual and performing artists in order to create economies of scale that provide opportunities for all students to participate in performing arts if they so choose.
- Ability and willingness to teach International Baccalaureate (IB)Theater courses, including attendance at IB training which may include hours in the summer months and/or weekends during the academic year.
- Demonstrate expertise in oral expression and listening skills; so students can listen actively and respectfully, pose thoughtful questions, acknowledge the ideas of others, and contribute ideas in order to attain an objective.
- Establish a respectful environment of a diverse population of students, developing a classroom environment in which each student has the opportunity to think independently and express original ideas.
- Facilitate learning for all students using a variety of instructional methods, integrating and utilizing technology, to provide students with opportunities to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, encourage exploration of ideas, and develop leadership qualities.
- Take responsibility for student academic growth using a variety of strategies to inform instructional decisions.
- Reflect on teaching practices, analyzing student learning, development, and growth and apply what is learned to improve instruction.
- Possess the ability to communicate and interact effectively and productively, both verbally and in writing, with all staff.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for collaboration with a team of administrators, teachers, support staff, and community members.
- Demonstrate ability to work with cross-departmental and or grade level teams to develop goals for improving student achievement.
- Demonstrate teacher leadership, advocating for students and exhibiting high ethical standards.
- Have a strong desire to extend learning experiences beyond the classroom, including participation the school district Outdoor Education and Experiential Education.

Responsibilities of this Position Include:
- Use a variety of methods, new media, and technology to create theatrical works through the use of the creative process for performance, directing, design, construction, choreography, playwriting, scriptwriting, and dramaturgy
- Create drama and theatre by interpreting and appreciating theatrical works, culture, and experience through scenes and scenarios, improvisation, creating environments, purposeful movement, and research
- Employ drama and theatre skills, and articulate the aesthetics of a variety of characters and roles
- Express drama and theatre arts skills in a variety of performances, including plays, monologues, improvisation, purposeful movement, scenes, design, technical craftsmanship, media, ensemble works, and public speaking
- Demonstrate the evolution of rehearsal and product through performance and/or production teamwork while simultaneously validating both as essential to the theatre making process
- Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of theatre history, dramatic structure, dramatic literature, elements of style, genre, artistic theory, script analysis, and roles of theatre practitioners through research and application
- Discern and demonstrate appropriate theatre etiquette and content for the audience, self, venue, technician, and performer
- Make informed, critical evaluations of theatrical performance from an audience member and a participant point of view, and develop a framework for making informed theatrical choices

- Formulates goals that reflect the organizationís strategic theme and include specific, measurable outcomes instead of just completing activities;
- Contributes actively to the goals and success of all teams and team members through collaboration, cooperation, and flexibility (give and take) in team discussions, activities, and decision making;
- Maintains high ethical standards, legal responsibility, and confidentiality.

Working Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobís functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, some climbing, stooping, kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, and repetitive motion with computer use. The job is performed in a generally clean and comfortable environment.
